Hi, I found this very useful BUT, having a Windows Vista computer, when I tried to start the set up process for the driver I got a window up saying: "This installation package is not supported by this processor type. Contact your product vendor" - How do I get around this? I'm so annoyed with my new computer and it's incompatability with most programs I try to install.

This usually happens when you attempt to install a 64-bit application on a 32-bit operating system. I suspect that you are running the 32-bit (x86) version of Windows Vista rather than the 64-bit (x64) version. In that case, download the 32-bit version (Windows XP) and the problems should go away. This is probably similar to what you are seeing with other incompatibilities.

After downloading this file and installing it in Windows 64-bit Ultimate, it still can't find the driver after I plug my phone in. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers, restarting Windows, plugging-in the phone on or off, and Windows still can't find the drivers for it. Any ideas anyone?

Mickey,

What driver are you trying to use? In terms of trying to charge your phone, use it with another program, or something else?

Immediately completing the installation on my machine, which sounds identical to yours in mode (x64) and version (Ultimate) I was able to charge my RAZR.

Please some help....I downloaded the correct drivers but my Vista Ultimate will NOT open the msi file to start the installation....Any idea why?

Do you have permissions to install files on your Vista Ultimate? Are you running it in elevated or as administrator? Just downloaded and double-clicked in my Vista Ultimate 64-bit and it worked great.

I'm not sure why this doesn't work for me. Vista Home Prem, 32 bit. Verizon RAZR V3m, one year old. I downloaded the file mentioned, installed it, etc. My computer cannot find the driver. Any thoughts?

Try the 32 bit driver? The one linked on this page is 64 bit, so you won't have any luck with them. They work a charm on x64 though. Kudos to the author of this blog for posting the drivers.

Thanks for this tutorial - was very helpful! My only issue so far is that now when I try to charge from my wall charger, it tells me "Unable to Charge" or "Invalid Battery". It works for a little when I plug it into the usb, but then tells me to insert my SIM card and my battery bar disappears. Any suggestions?! I have Vista Ultimate - 64 bit and the computer recognizes the phone when I plug it in. Thanks!

Nope these are buggy. I too am having the same problem. Vista 64 bit refuses to run the install program. This is a 64 bit machine and 64 vista.

Anonymous -- the install works great on the 64-bit / x64 version of Windows Vista and Windows XP. If you are having an issue, than you may have tried to install the 32-bit version.

Install the x64 USB driver from Motorola first:

Then Phone Tools or whatever you want to use will work fine.

Andrzej,

It appears you are trying to install the 64-bit drivers. Change to the 32-bit drivers and you should have no problems.
