I turned on my Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) for the first time in two months today and was greeted with the fact that it needed to update itself to the latest version. The latest version is 1.70. So, I downloaded it, updated it, and then turned it off again.
Apparently it was released on April 18, 2007. However, I would not know since it has not been turned on in quite awhile. What does version 1.70 add?
Well, according to Wikipedia:
Added the ability to play PSOne games downloaded from the PlayStation Store, as well as adding rumble functionality for PS2 controllers when playing PS2 games. Saved data from PlayStation format software can now be used on both PSP and PS3 systems.By the way, I think I missed 1.54 and 1.60 as well. Not really sure if it matters.
While the last couple of months have been ho-hum for the Playstation 3, things may heat up in the next couple of months. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six is set to launch Tuesday, May 15th and I just saw a preview on ESPN during the Warriors vs. Jazz game for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare -- the first game to leave the WWII era.
There's hope for the PS3 yet!
