How to Downgrade iPhone from 1.1.1 to 1.0.2 Guide

Several folks have been caught out in the cold with a bricked Apple iPhone with the the recent release of the 1.1.1 Apple iPhone firmware upgrade out just a couple of days ago. While I am not personally impacted by the problem, I ran across a site which shows users that are stuck how to downgrade from the 1.1.1 Apple iPhone Firmware to the 1.0.2 Firmware.

As with any hack or use of you Apple iPhone, user beware -- you could permanently damage your iPhone into an unrecoverable and unsupportable state that even Apple's Technical support will not touch. In addition, the hacks may be unreversable -- meaning your iPhone will forever be in the 1.0.2 version state. Make sure this is what you intend before diving in too deeply!

Here is an except from the how to guide:

1) Make sure you have a copy of the 1.0.2 firmware handy and decrypted
2) Reboot iPhone holding top (power) and home buttons *BUT* release the top button 10 seconds into it (right after the screen goes dark)
3) The iPhone screen will appear to be off, but start iTunes (latest version worked for me on the Mac)
4) Option+Click restore and select the 1.0.2 firmware ipsw
5) The phone will restart and error out at the end, this is expected
6) Shutdown iTunes
7) Launch the latest iNDpendence
8) Jailbreak the phone using a decrypted 1.0.2 (it will flash all sorts of error, but stick with it)
9) Activate the phone
10) It will show the SIM error but you should be able to get back in

The full text of the KMAC method can be found here. Holding the power button and the home button simultaneously for 10 seconds will put your phone into the restore state for the old firmware.

Optionally, here is a YouTube Video on the process that could help you out in your quest. Many folks have had great luck with it. If you are in the situation, good luck!
