Motorola Phone Tools - USB Cable Setup Guide for MPT - Step-by-Step

The Motorola Phone Tools application, also known as MPT or Mobile Phone Tools has the ability to connect from your computer in three different ways; USB cable, Bluetooth, and Infrared. While the USB cable may be the you connect with your desktop computer, those of us on the go really want to be wireless as much as possible. In this case, the most important configuration for your Mobile Phone Tools installation and your Motorola phone is the Bluetooth configuration.

This guide with walk you through the steps required to get the USB cable connectivity setup. All you need is standard USB cable with a standard mini-USB adapater to plug into your phone and you are set. If possible, insure a USB 2.0 compliant cable.

Below are the step-by-step installation instructions, if they work for you, please let me know with a comment below.
1. Create a new profile for you phone. Once you have, click on the new profile on the 'OK' button. Make sure that your phone is disconnected from your computer.

2. Select the "Cable" option from the list of available options and click on the "Next" button to setup your USB cable to connect to your Motorola cellular phone.


3. Mobile Phone Tools (MPT) will start the initialization of your phone and try to connect. The application displays the the "Please Wait" dialogue while this initial configuration is setup.

4. Once the initialization completes, your carrier's information will display in the Mobile Phone Tools application. In my case, it is Cingular/GSM. Apparently it has not updated to AT&T yet.

Congratulations, your Mobile Phone Tools has been setup for connectivity with a USB cable.
