How to install Skins / Themes on your Motorola RAZR phone

Reader MP asked me about a week ago why I did not have a Motorola RAZR guide for installing themes, also known as skins in the motorazr world. Having no good answer, I had no choice but to put together this guide. In it, you will learn how to quickly install a Motorola RAZR or similar theme or skin onto your mobile phone. Let's get started.

First off, the easiest way to do it is using a tool that can manage your phone. It is also quicker. For the job of installing skins or themes, Skins Manager v0.51 by dwALX is the best tool in my opinion -- it is also known as SkiMan for short. You can get a copy of it here, translated to English. This tool also assumes you have established USB connectivity to your Motorola RAZR phone. If you have not already done this, please see my Motorola RAZR Guide.

This guide was put together using my Motorola RAZR V3 phone, and the guide will work on many different version of the RAZR (V3c, V3i, V3m, V3x, V3xx, etc.). I also downloaded an Apple iPhone "skin" from this blog location, here. If this guide works for you, please let me know with a comment as well as the model / carrier of the phone you are using. Here is guide:

1. Open up dwALX's Skins Manager v0.51 and click on the Skins tab and the program will load the current skins / themes on your RAZR. Click on the Install button to start the process of load the new skin / theme onto your RAZR.

2. Ignore the advanced features here unless you are really comfortable with editing your Motorola phone. Just leave the defaults as is for your RAZR skin / theme and click the 'ok' button.

3. Find your .ski file that came with the Skin / Theme that you downloaded. The .ski file stands for skin in this case I select the iPhoneMoto.ski file and click 'ok'.

5. Now right-click on the theme as it shows in the Skins window and select the "Set as Active" menu option. A green check will appear next to the theme confirming it as the active skin. Optionally, you can use the F12 key as a shortcut.

6. Now we need to restart the phone for the changes to take. Click on the More button and select Restart Phone to restart your Motorola RAZR. Optionally, you can choose the F10 key as a shortcut.

7. Look at my Motorola RAZR V3 phone! It has the iPhone themed skin installed on it, confirming successful installation and activation of the skin. If you get this, then you have completed it as well!

Sounds like you may have downloaded the wrong version. Perhaps for Unix, Mac, or Linux?

.7z files are compressed files (like Zipped, Stuffed, ace or rar files. Just get the 7z "unzipper".

What about not being able to see the skins that are installed when I first start up the program. It still allows me to install skins, but I can't see the ones that are installed, even the moto one. Could it be that I have the wrong drivers or sumthing? (running windows vista, 64-bit)

I hv downloaded the software but i can't pair my phone with it.Do we need 2 install...or direct usage? As the help indicated it won't display initially used skin in ma phn in s/w >>"skin tab".And in the >>"menu file tab" --it shows a waring as 'You must use mma_ucp file from ur phone model'.what does it mean??????
And when phone is connected to USB,and when the s/w appln runs..it automatically disconnects. Why it so...??????

In order to make sure your computer is properly paired, you need to install one of two drivers first:

For Windows 32-bit OSes:

For Windows 64-bit OSes:
