I have a 47" Vizio and the dreaded "Purple Line" appeared. It is only 14 months old. This trick did not work. It has a purple line on the left hand side of the screen from the bottom up about half way up. I am so mad. Obiviously with all these people having this problem there is a flaw in the Vizio LCD products. There should be a class action lawsuit to demand they recall these TV

i have a vizio 32in a 2007model & this "screen tapping remedy" is official. how many taps it will take is to be determined. but after tapping on the line for a few minutes-i powered the unit on and off a few times and the *red vertical line* was gone...lets c how long it lasts.

Oh mah gad! I was freaking out when it happened too! Usually after work I hop on my pc and turn on my tv w/o even a glance.
But for some reason, when it came on, it made a really awkward sound (like a dial-up modem sound). So I looked, and BANG! There was a weird purple line. Freaked out after my first google attempts showed nothing but ppl with the same issue. Then I came here, and BLAMO!

I had the same problem, a thin blue line from top to bottom on my Vizio 42" LCD. I tapped on the line and on the plastic border of the screen at the top and again on the bottom of the screen, then along the entire length of the line. I work in IT and had this sort of line traveling down my Vizio screen. After reading this article, I thought that it was the most ridiculous attempt to fix an electronic device that I had ever come across.
