It worked well for a month and then all of a sudden I got a message '“an error occurred while copying files to the backup volume'. It wanted me to start a new backup. I would enter my new password when prompted, Time Machine would act as if the password was correct (unlike if I typed in an incorrect password), but would give a password error when it tried to actually do the backup.
