How to Install Blackberry Desktop Software with Media Manager

I have been messing around with my older Blackberry 8700 the past couple of weeks. And while I have no idea why I have not dumped it on eBay yet. But for $75, I may dump it there rather soon.

In order to get it connected to my computer, I wanted to install the Blackberry Desktop Manager v4.3 on my Dell computer to get the latest version of the software. To my surprise, the latest version included Media Manager by Roxio in order manage the multimedia (audio, video, music) files that you may have.

Generally speaking this would be a straight forward installation and not require a guide of sorts, but I ran into some issues on my Windows Vista 64-bit (x64) installation which should be shared. So with that, here is the installation guide.

1. Acquire the latest version of the Blackberry Desktop Software. That can be downloaded from the Blackberry site here: Blackberry Desktop Software. Warning, the Media Manager by Roxio version of the installation is much larger (>200MB) than the normal size (50MB).

2. Double-click on the downloaded file to start the installation. For Microsoft Windows Vista, you need to use elevated privileges / permissions in order for the Roxio Media Manager to function properly. To do this, right click on the installation file, select "Run as Administrator" to successfully elevate the permissions of the installer.
